Indresh Upadhyayji was born in a Brahmin Vaishnav family. He was born in a family in which all its members were devotees of Krishna. Indresh Upadhyay was born on August 7, in Vrindavan. Indreshji was born in that holy house. His life also remained like that of an ordinary child till some time. The level of spirituality among other childrens was more than that of the ordinary children.

Because he was born in a Vaishnav family, he has been exposed to spirituality since childhood.

Indresh Upadhyay has told in one of his interviews that he is very fond of singing in the beginning. He became a singer and by the grace of Parantu Girdharlalji, he chose Bhaktipath to guide the youth of today. When Indresh Upadhyay started growing up, his father Shri Krishnachandra Shastriji Thakurji Maharaj used to take him to his Bhagwat stories and sing many bhajans and kirtans.

For many years he observed how Bhagwat katha were told. Through this he got a lot of practice in Bhagwat Katha. He himself also practices Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran before each of his Bhagwat katha. He had practiced so deeply. Indresh Upadhyay is a follower of Shri Vaishnavism.
